PAINTING TO
PROTECT THE LAND
My relationship with Leelanau is a love affair.
And like any great relationship,
I want to know and understand her better.
Nature has the power to transform me into a little child and a sage elder in the same instant. It inspires the wonder of discovery and contains stillness and greatness of the infinite all at once.
Driving along M22, you can feel your blood pressure drop. Peace overcomes you. A smile plays upon your lips. Welcome to Leelanau County, home to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, hundreds of miles of pristine Lake Michigan shoreline, 33 inland lakes and five islands. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
My relationship with Leelanau is a love affair. And like any great relationship, I want to know and understand her better. Painting does that: it lets you study your subject and brings you to a place of greater understanding. I hope these paintings help bring light and awareness to just how special this place is. How we truly need to preserve our planet — starting with this little slice of our great state, Leelanau County. When you love something, you want to safeguard it, which is why I work with the Leelanau Conservancy to protect this magnificent place.
